Frequently asked questions

Getting Started

What is CardiLog?

CardiLog is an iPhone app for logging blood pressure. You type or photo-scan the systolic, diastolic and pulse from any monitor, and it stages each reading, spots trends, and exports a PDF for your doctor. No Bluetooth monitor needed.

Is CardiLog a medical device?

No. CardiLog is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition. It's a log and trend tool. Talk to a qualified physician before making medical decisions, and call emergency services in an emergency.

Do I need to create an account to use CardiLog?

No. There's no sign-up, email or password. Your readings are stored on your phone.

Does CardiLog work without an internet connection?

Logging, history, trend checks and Calm Mode work on the phone itself. Purchases and usage analytics need the network, so you'll need a connection to start or restore a subscription.

Is CardiLog available on Android?

Not yet. CardiLog is iPhone only for now.

Does CardiLog work with my blood pressure monitor?

Yes. It works with any monitor (Omron, Withings, iHealth, A&D or a manual cuff) because you type the numbers or scan the display with your camera. It doesn't pair over Bluetooth.

What languages is CardiLog available in?

The app is available in 32 languages.

Logging & Tracking

How do I log a blood pressure reading?

Tap Log Reading, then type your systolic, diastolic and pulse, or use photo scan to read them off the monitor's display. CardiLog stages the reading and adds it to your history.

What are Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) and Pulse Pressure?

MAP is the average pressure in your arteries over one heartbeat, estimated as diastolic plus a third of the gap between systolic and diastolic. Pulse Pressure is that gap itself. CardiLog shows both automatically.

Can I tag readings with context like exercise or medication?

Yes. There are 8 tags: After Exercise, After Meal, Stressed, Relaxed, Medication Taken, Poor Sleep, Caffeine and Alcohol.

Can I record where a reading was taken?

Yes. Mark it Home, Clinic, Pharmacy or Travel. It's useful for comparing home and clinic readings.

Which blood pressure guideline does CardiLog use?

Readings are staged with the AHA/ACC 2017 categories: Low, Normal, Elevated, Stage 1 (130/80+), Stage 2 (140/90+) and Crisis (180/120+). Other guidelines such as ESC and NICE use different cut-offs, so your doctor's thresholds may differ.

What happens if a reading is dangerously high?

At 180/120 or above, CardiLog shows an emergency screen with what to do right now and a button to call emergency services. It's information, not a substitute for emergency care. If you think it's an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Does CardiLog connect with Apple Health?

Yes. It can save your blood pressure and heart rate to Apple Health, and import blood pressure readings that are already in Health.

Can CardiLog remind me to log a reading?

Yes. You can set one daily reminder at the time that suits you.

AI Insights & Heart Tests

Does CardiLog use AI to analyze my data?

Not in the chatbot sense. "AI Insights" is our name for automatic trend detection: fixed rules that run on your phone and write a short weekly summary. Your readings aren't sent to any AI provider.

What are Morning Surge and White Coat Effect?

Morning Surge flags a morning systolic more than 20 mmHg above the previous night's. White Coat Effect flags a clinic systolic average 10+ mmHg above your home average, once you have at least 5 home and 3 clinic readings.

What heart tests are included?

Six short self-assessment quizzes scored 0 to 100: Heart Health, Heart Risk, Stress Check, Sleep Quality, Salt & Diet, and Medication Check. They aren't diagnostic tests.

Can CardiLog measure my pulse with the camera?

Yes. Rest a fingertip on the camera for 15 or 30 seconds. Premium adds heart rate variability (SDNN, RMSSD, pNN50) and a stress index.

Calm Mode

What is Calm Mode for?

It's a guided way to do the few minutes of quiet rest that's recommended before measuring. We don't promise it lowers your reading. It just helps you actually rest first.

What breathing patterns does Calm Mode offer?

Four: Calm 4-4-6, 4-7-8, Box 4-4-4 and Coherent 5-0-5. Each runs for 4 rounds with an animation pacing your breathing.

Family & Sharing

Can I track blood pressure for my family?

You can create up to 5 profiles on one phone. For now, readings are kept in one shared history, so add a note saying whose reading it is.

Can I export or share my readings with my doctor?

Yes. Export a PDF (readings, averages, MAP, Pulse Pressure and stage) or a CSV, and send it by email, AirDrop or Messages.

Privacy & Data

Is my blood pressure data private?

Your readings are stored on your phone and there's no CardiLog account. Your history isn't synced to a server. The app does send usage analytics, which include the values of readings you save, tied to a random ID rather than your identity. The privacy policy lists exactly what's sent.

What happens to my data if I switch phones or lose my device?

Make an encrypted backup in CardiLog and restore it on the new phone. Your regular iPhone backup also includes app data. There's no account to recover from, so keep a recent backup.

Is CardiLog free?

It's a free download, but full use of the app needs a subscription. You'll see the options after onboarding.
